Humble Beginnings
The way I grew up has a lot to do with how World Class Roofing began and what it's become today. As the oldest of four boys in an Amish family of eight, figuring out how to do things was second nature to me. My education ended after eight years of grade school, a common practice in Amish society.
At home, we learned to work hard and do things right. This mindset stayed with me into my teen years and beyond. At 14, I got a job at a local sawmill. By 16, I was working in construction, and I've been doing it ever since.
The Birth of a Dream
I've always dreamed of starting my own roofing company in West Virginia. Despite the risks, I felt confident it would work out. In the spring of 2015, I decided to launch my roofing business with an entire summer to test my mettle.
Since I was from the Amish church (no driver's license), I first bought a truck and hired a driver. With all my construction experience, selling jobs and completing projects quickly became routine. However, being the only sales guy posed a problem. Nothing happened if I wasn't on the job site or took a day off. So, I often spent sleepless nights in the office, handling paperwork.
The Name & Growth
Choosing a name for my company was important. I wanted something unique that customers would remember. World Class Roofing was bold and gutsy, capturing what I was aiming for—a reputation that stood apart from other roofing companies.
The opportunity to grow was immense. Marcus, my longtime friend, joined to help with sales. His construction experience and ability to talk to anyone made him perfect for the job. Later that year, my brother-in-law also joined the sales team. Soon, we had three people in sales, keeping our crew busy.
Community Impact
In several areas, we started with a single residence and ended up roofing whole neighborhoods. A notable instance is the Highland Hills development in Fallensbee, WV, where a hailstorm in 2020 caused major roof damage. One job led to another, thanks to word-of-mouth from pleased customers. In 2020 alone, we replaced over 200 roofs in Fallensbee.
In most years, we complete 300 to 400 jobs. Our commitment is to be the best roofing company in West Virginia, reflecting our Christian values.
The Future
Our focus remains on family, church, and community. We're growing a business we hope to pass down to our son, Treyson, someday. Since our startup in 2015, we've completed over 2,000 jobs. We're A+ rated by BBB, Google Guaranteed, and boast a 4.9-star Google review.
